TANZANIA 2010-12 Target: 10,000 balls |
Wow, what a year or so it's been. We've had so many volunteer teams heading out to Tanzania over the last 12 months each time hand-delivering about 1,500 balls direct to kids in some of the most rural areas of the country. Our focus has so far been in Lindi (south east) Singida (central), Mbeya (south west) and Kigoma (western border with Burundi). Project reports to follow, but check out all the pics on our Flickr page. We've tried to make it the most inclusive project that's happened to date. And we're not finished yet. That means we want YOU to be a massive part of it. Not just by donating funds for balls, (though we need this too, urgently), but to put together your own small teams of three or more volunteers prepared to head out to Tanzania, to help hand deliver all the balls. For more info see our Volunteer section. We've already had 8 teams of 3 people signed up, delivering balls on behalf of their friends, families and colleagues, direct to kids in some of the country's poorest regions. We want more groups to join us in 2012 to help make this our biggest project to date. For those of you that think this will be a stroll through the Serengeti, forget it. As with previous projects we (you) will be going to the areas of the country the guide books don't point you to. Rural Tanzania suffers some of the worst poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. They have one of the highest HIV rates in the world and anything we can do to help make a difference, we will.
